Fort Lewis College is one of 104 schools receiving six-year grants as part of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Inclusive Excellence 3 (IE3) initiative. IE3 challenges U.S. colleges and universities to substantially and sustainably build capacity for student belonging, especially for those historically excluded from the sciences.

The goal of this event, sponsored by the Mathematics Department, is to make math non-competitive and fun. When Giancarlo Vigil studied abroad in Argentina as a junior, his Uruguayan grandmother gave him one piece of advice: “Giancarlo, you have to try maté when you get there.” “I had no idea what that was,” Vigil (Economics, ’15) admits. But after his first taste of yerba maté, the traditional South American beverage, he fell in love—so much so that he founded The Maté Exchange in Durango after graduation.
