A little over a decade after taking an accidental journalism course at Fort Lewis College, Jourdan Bennett-Begaye (Athletic Training, ’13) is the editor-in-chief of ICT (formerly Indian Country Today), a digital platform reporting on the Indigenous world.

More than 400 FLC students graduated on May 6 at a ceremony addressed by Thomas J. Vilsack, the 32nd United States Secretary of Agriculture. 

The 57th annual Hozhoni Days drew a historic crowd of nearly 2,000 people to Whalen Gymnasium. Three vibrant events spanning March 29-31 celebrated Indigenous culture, history, and traditions woven into FLC’s fabric. It was a blur of scholarship exhibits, powwow competitions, and bustling vendor stalls. But at its core, Hozhoni Days provided a time for people to gather, dance, sing, heal, and celebrate traditions that are thousands of years old.

Stacey DeFore (Business Administration, ‘94) was confirmed to the FLC Board of Trustees this week, beginning the role of a lifetime for her as a student advocate and partner to her alma mater.

Akuel Kot, a senior studying Sports Administration, has been playing basketball every day since the seventh grade. Kot’s dedication to the game has paid off. Standing at six-foot-two, he’s a Fort Lewis College men’s basketball team guard—and its star player.

On a wintry afternoon, Fort Lewis College hosted an indoor commencement on December 16 to celebrate nearly 200 graduates. Hundreds of friends, family members, and staff filed into the packed Whalen Gymnasium to show their love through posters, cheers, and thunderous applause.
