FLC committed to the housing security of its faculty and staff by launching the Employee Mortgage Assistance Program, or EMAP.

As the nationwide housing crisis continues to rage across college campuses in America, Fort Lewis College is working with key staff members like Stella Zhu to develop dynamic responses to the issue.

This past July, FLC responded to the housing crisis quandary by promoting Kelsey Deckert to the new role of Housing Strategy & Development manager.

Fort Lewis College alumna Jenn Lopez (English, ‘95), president and founder of Project Moxie, is tackling the current housing crisis head-on.

If you aren't here to see it, you might think that FLC in the summer is as quiet as the wilderness that surrounds Durango. But that's far from the reality. On top of summer semester classes, in the months between Spring Commencement in May and Fall Convocation in August our mountain campus bustles with activity from the many groups that visit and stay here to take advantage of the opportunities and resources campus and southwest Colorado offer.

Are you wondering what it’s like to live on campus? Kailey and Sarah show off their room in Cooper Hall: a double occupancy room, bathroom shared with one other room in the suite, game room / lounge, and computer lab.  Cooper Hall features two-room suites with double occupancy, co-ed by alternating floor or suite.

“I think interacting with the student population is a lot of fun,” says Assistant Professor of Political Science Michael Dichio. Good thing, because Dichio will be interacting with FLC students even more frequently as the latest Faculty in Residence.

I remember the dread that hung over me as I moved my stuff into the dorm my freshman year. I had no desire to live on campus with a bunch of people I didn’t know. I was nervous about how the year would go and truly wished that I didn’t have to experience the dorms at all. However, this quickly changed as I got settled into my dorm. In the first few weeks of school, I met the people living in my dorm and the surrounding dorms, eventually meeting people from all across campus.

As my time at Fort Lewis College comes to an end, I realize more and more all of the things I have learned over the past four years. Obviously, I have learned all of the information I need towards my major and minor, which is expected if I’m paying for an education.  What I see as the most important things I’ve learned, though, are the many different life skills you acquire from living away from home for a few years.

Starting college directly out of high school simply means a lot of changes in life. Moving to a completely different town where you know no one can be exciting and scary at the same time. I grew up and lived for 18 years in the same small town where everyone knew everyone. This made it very comfortable for me and I got used to always seeing someone I knew no matter where I was. Coming to college for the first time here at Fort Lewis, I knew no one.
