Outdoor Pursuits summits 3rd highest peak in North America

During Fort Lewis College's spring break in March, a team of students and Outdoor Pursuits staff tackled North America’s third-highest mountain, the 18,491-foot Pico de Orizaba, east of Mexico City in the state of Puebla. On Thursday, March 27th, the entire team -- eight students and two staff -- summited the volcano, after months of preparation and training.

Going beyond the classroom

I have had a lot of amazing opportunities at Fort Lewis College to explore my field of study beyond the classroom. I am an English Communication Major and throughout my time on the campus news magazine The Independent, I have moved through various positions. I started as a Print Reporter and I transitioned to become Online Manager and now for a year and a half I have been Editor in Chief.

Involvement: The key to success

Engulfed in the flames of a busy school and work schedule, I asked myself: “What am I getting out of all this?” Doing the bare minimum is an easy habit to form when you are trying to balance your work and school schedule. But after really questioning my decision to be in school, I came to the conclusion that the bare minimum isn’t enough.
