Art, history, and culture coalesce in Throughline, a student-led exhibit inspired by the collections at the Center of Southwest Studies.

Launched in the early 2000s, the Colorado State Library’s Historic Newspapers Collection has been slowly adding historic newspapers from across the state to its anthology, including publications from FLC as far back as 1896. 

Surrounded by boxes and papers in the archives of the Center of Southwest Studies, History students are preparing records important to both U.S. and Colorado history for use by future researchers, historians, and students.

Over three months, nine faculty and staff members received grants for their programs and departments, ranging in size from $750 to $120,000.

Today’s students will shape the future—but today, some of those students are also preserving the past. Through photography archiving projects at Fort Lewis College’s Center of Southwest Studies, several History students are scanning and digitizing thousands of historic photographic negatives that are at risk for decay from age. Thanks to the students’ efforts, the images will be preserved and available to the public through FLC’s Archives website.
