Every fall, the Environmental Center brings together our students, staff, and wider community to hear from a regional leader on environmental issues of importance and offers a space for students to engage with organizations they might intern or work with post-graduation.

This year’s Summit theme explores inclusivity in the outdoors, perspectives on our relationships with nature and the spaces we occupy, and what positive actions we can take as individuals and communities.

Featuring keynote speaker Erica Nelson . Erica is a Din茅 Fly Fishing Guide who also consults on inclusivity in guiding spaces. She is the host of the Awkward Angler podcast and ambassador of .

Erica Nelson was born and raised in Kirtland, New Mexico, near the Farmington/Four Corners area, and now resides in Crested Butte, Colorado, on the ancestral lands of the Ute people. She is the co-founder of REAL Consulting, a DEI-focused firm, a founding fly fishing guide at Wanderland Outdoors, and the host of the Awkward Angler Podcast. With over 12 years of experience in outdoor guiding and instruction, Erica is an ambassador for Brown Folks Fishing, an organization dedicated to fostering inclusion, equity, and community in the fishing world. In 2019, she co-created the Angling for All Pledge, which, along with her personal story, has been featured in The New York TimesField & StreamOutside Business Journal, and various podcasts.
