Erica Nelson was born and raised in Kirtland, New Mexico, near the Farmington/Four Corners area, and now resides in Crested Butte, Colorado, on the ancestral lands of the Ute people. She is the co-founder of REAL Consulting, a DEI-focused firm, a founding fly fishing guide at Wanderland Outdoors, and the host of the Awkward Angler Podcast. With over 12 years of experience in outdoor guiding and instruction, Erica is an ambassador for Brown Folks Fishing, an organization dedicated to fostering inclusion, equity, and community in the fishing world. In 2019, she co-created the Angling for All Pledge, which, along with her personal story, has been featured in The New York Times, Field & Stream, Outside Business Journal, and various podcasts.
