This year’s theme “KDUR: The Original Mixtape” recalls a time when tapes were a popular media and how radio was the original mashup of favorite tracks.

In some ways, journalism has not changed in a hundred years. Yet today’s multimedia landscape would be unrecognizable to reporters of yesteryear – or even just a few years ago. To prepare the journalists of tomorrow for this kind of media world, Fort Lewis College’s new Journalism & Multimedia Studies major gets students working with contemporary and ever-evolving platforms, while also grounding them in the ageless principles of the field.

What is it like to be a student at Fort Lewis College? In our "Day in the Life" series, we'll explore life at FLC through the eyes of our students. In this episode, we meet Lainey, an English major and media enthusiast. On this day, Lainey goes skiing up at Purgatory Resort, works with the student newsmagazine The Independent, and does her internship with KDUR Campus Community Radio. She gets hands-on experience in her field in the new Ballantine Media Center.

A part of the community since 1974, KDUR creates a bridge between FLC and Durango. It provides diverse music, alternative news and local programming. The special part is, anyone can be a DJ!
