The program offers students a unique pathway to nursing careers 

Ellen Paul, Ph. D., professor of history at FLC will travel to Bosnia to study reconciliation efforts and how they could apply to FLC. She is the second FLC professor to receive the distinguished award this year.

Fort Lewis College's PEAQS program is transforming student careers with hands-on research, a $4.2 million NSF grant, and opportunities that even include launching micro-thrusters for satellites.

This year, 20 FLC students participated in All Our Kin Collective Summer Institute, a two-week program promoting excitement and love for Native Languages. Guided by instructors and tribal elders, students used songs, animated videos, and cultural activities to learn (and teach) Din茅, Ute, and Lakota.

Rosie Fool Head and Veko Mapenzi overcame significant obstacles to pursue higher education. Fool Head, from the Oglala Sioux Tribe, moved to Denver at 15 and worked in the service industry. Mapenzi, a refugee from Congo, lived in a Malawi camp before relocating to Denver. The Reisher Program has provided both the financial means to pursue a four-year degree and helped them find a community of peers at Fort Lewis College. Their journeys highlight the transformative impact of the program.

Growing up, Gabby James (Biochemistry, ’19) saw few healthcare providers who looked like her. A member of the Din茅 Tribe, James is striving to change that for future generations. She’s one step closer thanks to a full-ride scholarship to the University of Wisconsin’s Physician’s Assistant program.

A little over a decade after taking an accidental journalism course at Fort Lewis College, Jourdan Bennett-Begaye (Athletic Training, ’13) is the editor-in-chief of ICT (formerly Indian Country Today), a digital platform reporting on the Indigenous world.
