Along with so many of you, I was horrified to hear of the shootings in Orlando that impacted so many. My heart goes out to the family and friends of the victims who lost their lives and those who were wounded.
I often tell people that Fort Lewis College is open to all people of goodwill. By this, I do not mean that everyone who comes to FLC must think the same way, or that we can’t discuss and debate our differing opinions and beliefs. What I mean by “people of goodwill” are those who can speak and act with love and respect for those who live, work and learn around them, regardless of their own personal views.
We’re not perfect at Fort Lewis College, but I’m proud of the community we’ve built. Dark moments, like the tragedy in Orlando, may break our hearts for a time. Yet as I look around campus and Durango, I see that there is far more good in this world than evil, and that is very encouraging.
