Homecoming is next week, October 7-10! As the school year really gets rolling, it’s nice to have this occasion to take a breather and have some fun.

Among the events this year are men’s and women’s soccer on Friday, followed by the Homecoming Bonfire and Fireworks Show that night. On Saturday, join us for the tailgate party and football game, with Skyfest kicking off that afternoon.

Especially for alumni, FLC Alumni Engagement is sponsoring the Alumni Mug Crawl on Friday at 5 p.m. Alumni and their significant others can meet at the Durango Welcome Center with their alumni mugs in hand. If anyone needs a mug, one can be purchased for $5.

On Sunday, Fort Lewis College Athletics hosts the Skyhawk Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Strater Hotel. Congratulations to Skyhawk volleyball alumna Moreen (Baylis) Sawyer and football alumnus Matt Gutierrez for joining this prestigious group of hall of famers.

On Monday, Fort Lewis College will hold its inaugural Indigenous People’s Day. The creation of Indigenous People’s Day was a student-led effort that the President’s Cabinet approved. The celebration on Indigenous People’s Day is the annual Real History of the Americas program, which offers cultural events, food, music and more all day on campus.

And these are only a few of the events planned for Homecoming. Put down the books, step away from your desks, and have some fun!

Sincerely,

Dene Thomas
President, Fort Lewis College
