John Foley

This 4th of July has been especially poignant for the Fort Lewis College family after the recent passing of Marine Capt. Jeff Kuss. Capt. Kuss’ dream was to fly and serve our country; a dream that he carried with him through his time at FLC. We’re all proud to count him among our Fort Lewis College alumni.

Capt. Kuss’ family has set up a scholarship in his name. The Jeff Kuss Memorial Scholarship program is designated for veterans returning to school and the children of active military families. If you would like to support this scholarship program, you may do so online at , by writing a check to the FLC Foundation with a notation in the memo line earmarking the gift and either mailing or dropping it off in the Foundation office. If you elect to use the online form, simply click “Select Fund” in step 2, then “Scholarships,” then select the “Jeff Kuss Memorial Scholarship” from the list.

For those who may be close enough to Durango, Fort Lewis College, the Durango Chamber of Commerce, and the Durango Area Tourism Office are bringing renowned public speaker John Foley to campus. John, like Capt. Kuss, was a pilot with the Blue Angels. Today he is a highly sought after presenter who has helped organizations across the globe.

The program will be held on Wednesday, August 3 at 9 a.m. in the Student Union Ballroom at Fort Lewis College. Tickets are $50, and I’m pleased to announce that 100% of the proceeds will go to the Jeff Kuss Memorial Scholarship program.

I hope you all had a happy and safe 4th of July, and I hope we will always remember those who serve in order to keep this country free.

Sincerely,

Dene Thomas

President, Fort Lewis College
