Tony Holmquist is currently Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Art & Design at Fort Lewis College. He joined the college in 2010 from the University of Maine, Farmington, where he was a Lecturer. Tony’s work utilizes the processes of printmaking (traditional, digital, and hybrid techniques), incorporates principles of rhythm through a musical visual vocabulary, and explores concepts of memory/impermanence.
Mr. Holmquist exhibits his work around the world at galleries and museums such as the International Print Center of New York, the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke, Virginia, Art at Wharepuke in Kerikeri, New Zealand, and Walker Fine Art in Denver, Colorado, to name a few. He is a current member of the Society of American Graphic Artists and regularly exhibits with them in and around the New York City area. He was awarded the Fort Lewis College Featured Scholar Award in 2016, an honor granted to one faculty member yearly for outstanding research in their field.
Mr. Holmquist is also a professional musician who researches and interprets old-time music through the fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and guitar. He won first place in the banjo competitions at the Santa Fe Bluegrass and Old-Time Festival and the Central Rockies Old-Time Music Festival (CROMA).
