Fort Lewis College sets the minimum starting salary based on the highest academic degree earned relevant to the teaching assignment: Highest Degree Relevant to Teaching AssignmentMinimum Starting Salary per Credit HourBachelors $600Masters $700Masters Plus* $800Doctorate $900Fort Lewis College Emeritus Faculty$1,020*Some Masters programs such as MFA or MBA which require more than the usual 30 semester hours; substantial progress in a degree beyond a Masters degree. Additional factors relevant to the teaching assignment may also be taken into account in setting a part-time, visiting faculty members starting salary. Examples: relevant professional certification or licenses (such as CPA, law license, board certification), scholarly publications, or successful collegiate teaching experience. After consideration of relevant information, the appropriate Dean or the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs will recommend the initial salary to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Provost approval of the salary is required before a contract is issued. After completing 30 credit hours of teaching, part-time visiting faculty are eligible to receive a $20 per credit salary increase. The appropriate Dean or the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs will recommend the salary increase to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs for approval. All part-time visiting faculty on renewable contracts and listed in the staffing pattern are considered continuing employees and are eligible for Merit I & II salary increases; thus, they are not eligible for this kind of salary increase. The maximum salary per credit hour for part-time visiting faculty is $1,020. If an existing part-time visiting faculty teaches a course in a new department, the existing salary shall be honored by the new department. A returning part-time visiting faculty will receive the same salary as the last salary unless s/he possesses a new relevant degree or is eligible to receive salary increase per Paragraph 5. These guidelines do not apply to salary determination for Summer teaching, Enrichment courses, Extended Studies courses, and the like. These guidelines are effective Fall 2006 and apply to existing part-time visiting faculty. If salary adjustments are made in accordance with these guidelines, a new salary will be effective in the next term.
